Braun ATELIER 3 Stereo +2x L1 Loudspeaker Radio Record Player DIETER RAMS SK 11
Braun Atelier 3 radio and record player. This particular radio-record player combination is in excellent vintage cosmetic condition. It has a four speed record player with 78, 45, 33, 16 rpm. The tube radio picks up LW, MW, and UKW signals (Broadcast, Long Wave, and FM). This combination was designed by Dieter Rams. It has no nickname unlike the SK “Snow White’s Coffin” series with its translucent plastic lid, but it is a classic piece of design and unlikely to ever be remade.. It is the same model as the Atelier 2 and shares the same beautiful cream white wooden casing, unlike the Atelier 2 with its ash-veneer wooden sides this model features sides made out of polished aluminum. Technically speaking it’s a hybrid of the Braun SK 61 phonogram and the Braun RCS 3 stereo receiver, without a box. As already mentioned cosmetic is for it years very good, with some very small signs of wear. No paint loss, but it is not “as new”, with little signs of use. Please see pictures below. Technically speaking the radio works beautifully at all signals, sound is strong and clear. Same applies to the record player. It has been reconditioned. All switches and knobs work well treble, bass, etc. , including the magic eye. Tubes can be replaced easily. Here is a quick overview. Weight: 15 kg / 33 lb 0.6 oz (33.04 lb). Dimensions: 583 x 293 x 290 mm / 23 x 11.5 x 11.4 inch. Power supply (switchable) 110; 125; 150; 220; 240 Volt 50-60hz. Set includes two L1 speakers and will be delivered in three parcels! The speakers are in a nice vintage cosmetic condition. Both are fully functionally and will also fit the famous Braun SK “Snow White’s Coffin” and Atelier series like Braun SK4, SK4/1a, SK4/1, SK4/2, SK5, SK55, SK6, SK61, SK61-C, Atelier 81-1, Atelier 1, Atelier 11, Clairtone Atelier 11-C, Atelier 3 as well as the RCS-9 Receiver. This combination was designed by Dieter Rams and Hans Gugelot (Bauhaus / Ulmer Schule HFG aka “Ulm College of Design”). Wooden construction with white plastic finish, sides are made of elm wood. As already mentioned cosmetic is for it years very good, with some little signs of wear. Dimensions are 583 x 238 x 290 mm or 23 x 9.4 x 11.4 inch. The Atelier has a German power cord so an EU/UK/US/ASIA universal plug adapter is required. BRAUN Atelier 3// DIETER RAMS (1932- present). The clarity of form and minimalist design vocabulary associated with the German designer Dieter Rams is closely identified with the BRAUN Company. Many of his designs for domestic appliances and audio equipment feature in the permanent collections of leading museums that collect and promote design, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, in New York, which began to collect Braun products in 1958. After studying architecture at the Wiesbaden Academy of Applied Arts from 1947 to 1953 he spent three years as an apprentice cabinetmaker. This was followed by a period in architectural offices until he joined Braun in 1955. Rams epitomized the clean, austere appearance associated with a functional aesthetic and with associate designer, Hans Gugelot. The Braun range won every international design prize going. At this time he was also involved in furniture development with the designer, physicist, and entrepreneur Otto Zapf (born 1931). As Braun’s design director (from 1960), he was responsible for establishing a cleanly stated and distinctive aesthetic for a wide range of products from kitchen appliances to alarm clocks, calculators, lighters, and electric razors. This aesthetic was also in tune with the outlook of the Hochschule für Gestaltung (ULMER SCHOOL), a progressive design academy with links to Braun that had been first established in 1954. His clearly articulated and austere 606-shelf unit for Vitsoe (1960) remained in production for more than 40 years. He has held a number of academic posts including, from 1981, a professorship in industrial design in Hamburg. In 1987 he became president of the German Rat-F-R-Formgebung (Design Council), which for many years had promoted the values associated with ideas of good design. In a recent design magazine (ICON), Rams is quoted as saying, As designers we have a great responsibility. I believe designers should eliminate the unnecessary. That means eliminating everything that is modish because this kind of thing is only short lived. Dieter Rams has received many international design awards throughout his career and his work is considered to be design classics of the highest. In full working order. Very good vintage condition. No dents, again, please see the pictures below. As shown on pictures. Your satisfaction is guaranteed. Please no personal or postal checks. Super equipment, made by Braun.
