Sony 5520 Vintage Turntable 1970’s Japan Needs attention VGC RARE. Lovely rare high end vintage turntable by Sony. In good clean overall condition for it’s age (apart from the usual near unavoidable odd scratch/mark to the plastic cover on top)! There are minor signs of age related wear as to be expected but nothing very significant. There is a little chip of black veneer to the bottom corner has been touched up neatly and now barely noticable. The turntable was working well however it required a new belt. I have replaced with a brand new correct one and all was well….. But after 5 minutes or so there a small smell of smoke and the motor stopped spinning and has not worked since. Guessing it may need replacing/repairing.. Or maybe it’s something else i’m not sure. The small counter balance weight is missing also but can be easily replaced. Lastly the turntable requires a new cartridge and stylus. These can be replaced relatively cheaply but i have not done so, as i thought i would let the new owner decide whether they wish to replace this item with a budget or higher quality one. This could be a nice little project for someone with a bit turntable repair knowledge. Not too much to do to restore this to a beautiful and rare turntable. These are very expensive when all working.
