The original units which were the RCA AP-1 were factory installed in 50’s and 60’s high end automobiles. Now, they are hot items for restored and Custom Show Cars. Naturally, the audio system is upscaled to Stereo. Soooo, why put an expensive item under your dash if it doesn’t produce the quality of audio the system is capable of? Being a Car Nut myself, I decided to modify an old AP-1. It sounded fantastic, especially with Stereo 45rpm records. I received an offer I couldn’t refuse at my first Spring Auto Show. I have been restoring and. All parts stripped, anodized, and reinstalled to factory specs. All rubber parts and mounts and buffers have all been replaced with new. The suspension springs which keep the play deck steady over bumps have been replaced too. The cartridge has been replaced with a P-150 Stereo cartridge and the tone arm adjusted to apply only 5-8mg pressure to the needle. This allows the cartridge, thru it’s pre-amplifier, to produce true high quality audio unlike the old power point cartridge which was also used in Fischer Price toy record players. If you already have one, send it to me for a face lift. You won’t be sorry. This offering is full FM multiplex stereo so you just tune your dial to the broadcast and lock it in with your radio. Or, if you really want to blow the paint off your car, plug the amp straight into the RCA outputs. New motor, new drive wheel, new bearings, new stereo cartridge, new pre-amplifier with controls for each channel, RCA outputs. Arm is balanced to 5-7 grams to protect and track even the newest micro groove 45s being produced. The motor has an external adjustment for pitch control, although once set, will keep the speed constant from 9-16volts. The new motor is quieter than the original and has more torque. I restore these for customers, some of whom are dealers. Due to volume, I don’t have some “wild eyed” idea they are worth thousands of dollars unrestored as some appear to think.
