The Yamaha GT-2000, released in 1982 during the “Golden Era” of Japanese audiophile equipment, is a highly-respected direct-drive The GT-2000 offers exceptional performance by virtue of its robust and unerring construction. The oversized ultra-pure 5.8 kg (12.8 lb) aluminum platter provides highly stable and inertial rotation, for extremely precise pitch reproduction. On top of its playback performance, the GT-2000 is overall a visually beautiful piece of equipment. This unit is in very good condition, with only minor general wear throughout, including some minor scratches, scuffs and minor wood chipping (please see photos). Here is the low down on the turntable. Overall looks in really good condition. When plugged in the turntable tries to turn but doesn’t. One of the RCA style cables is pulled loose from underneath. This Realistic turntable had been i n storage for decades and seems to be in beautiful shape. I t powered on, the arm moved automatically and played the record. The weight of the arm is clearly out of adjustment because the needle practically floats over the record. Also, when I plugged it into the receiver, it seemed noisy, like a hum. It changed slightly when I jiggled the RCA cables. We know almost nothing about proper operation so assume that it’ll need some TLC. Cosmetically, its very nice. The dust cover is scratched and has a couple cracks but otherwise, the whole unit is really good. Also, the turntable rubber plate has obviously been re-glued, and you can see some overage around the outside of the platter. T he mystery to me is the sticker on the back that says “Emerson Model 740″. No clue what that’s about. We’ll cover proper packaging to ensure that it gets to you in its current, pictured condition. Please study photos carefully and let us know if you have any questions or would like specific photos.
