1954 Voice Of Music TrioMatic Model 1285 Record Player Restored. I had this unit mechanically restored by the Voice of Music people. It was not working prior to that. The record changer was serviced and the amp was serviced. I’m pretty sure the tubes are original. I wanted this to be period original so I had a nos cartridge installed. The tone would probably be better with a newer cartridge. Otherwise it works perfect and I’m very pleased with the restoration. Cosmetically, the interior is in beautiful condition and original. The flocking is excellent for something 70 years old. The finishes are all clean and shiny. For the exterior the finish was dull and dry. I lightly sanded it and rubbed it over with a dark walnut stain. I tried to hide any imperfections. I finished it with a coat of clear poly. It’s not perfect, but it looks like a very well taken care of piece. The grill cloth was also replaced with new fabric to look as close to original as possible. I’ve got over 600 into this and I’m asking 600. If I can’t get that I’ll just keep it and enjoy it. It doesn’t have legs, never did but I’m sure they can be installed. It doesn’t have a 45 rpm stacker. I play 78s and 10 lps. Hence the old cartridge. With a more modern cart one could play more modern records.
