Bell Sound Systems Model 2198 Tube Record Player Turntable Powers On. The turn table turns in all three speeds but makes noise. The speaker crackles but the speaker wire has cracks and almost breaks as it is brittle. I think with some work this could be back and running again. Please ask questions before purchasing.

Clean and of course sounds so warm and full with the all tube amplification. Radio works perfectly, but there’s no sound with the record player. I put a new needle in, and that didn’t work, so I think it needs a new cartridge. I replaced the cartridge and now the record player works!!!! The bass knob needs to be cleaned. There’s also an issue with the speakers -when it’s pushed in for stereo instead on mono, the right speaker doesn’t work. And when the record player is going the left speaker isn’t working while the stereo is pushed in. I’m not an expert on these, so I think it might need a preamp? I think this is what isn’t lighting up when it’s plugged in. But, like I said, I’m not an expert or even close. Also, the back panel needs to be rewired/repaired. It’s also missing a knob on the back-see photo. This record player still sounds good, but needs work. From a smoke and pet free home. Record is Sleater-Kinney The Center Won’t Hold. Message with any questions!

This vintage working Montgomery Ward airline phonograph is a true gem for collectors. Made in the United States in 1954 – 1955, it features a classic design and is equipped with 3 tubes and 3 speeds that include 78s. The brand is well-known for its quality, and this phonograph is no exception. Once the tubes warmed up, it began spinning the turntable relatively well. An old 78 was tested for sound quality and operating the auto drop feature. However, once play was selected on the multi option dial, the record dropped and the arm smoothly went over as it should. The turntable has nice felt atop of it. As I messed with dials, slight static could be heard. With a needle and possibly an internal check of wire connections, this would make a very nice player for your old records. Power type and voltage. Alternating Current supply (AC). Permanent Magnet Dynamic (PDyn) Loudspeaker (moving coil). Leather / canvas / plastic – over other material. Model: Airline 978 Phonograph – Montgomery Ward & Co. Tablemodel, portable with any shape – general. 15 x 8.25 x 16.75 inch / 381 x 210 x 425 mm. Model Airline 978 is a 3-speed automatic phonograph. Price in first year of sale. Montgomery Ward Catalogs (Wards, Airline). Fall/Winter 1954/55, page 666 & 667. It’s perfect for those who appreciate vintage technology and want to add a unique piece to their collection.
