Very rare unit has no breaks, cracks or missing pieces. All knobs, buttons work and turn as they should. Radio turns on and plays. Speaker works but have crackling as volume is adjusted. Inspired by Kubrick’s classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey, here we have an incredibly rare piece of space-age-design home audio in excellent condition. Its retro-future design is unmistakable and would be an iconic eye catching piece in anyone’s collection. All lights have been upgraded to modern LED replacements, so there is no lifespan concerns, unlike thee extremely fragile and difficult to replace halogen bulbs. The tuning dial looks mesmerising as seen in the listing pics. It was released in 1971 in either white or yellow; the yellow being the more scarcely seen version. This is a beautiful example ready to place in your period/feature home and use and enjoy. This is a clean, fully operational, dust-free vintage piece, suited to the collector’s home. The condition and status of each component is as follows. Stand: repainted in 2-pack satin black, matched to original finish. Stand is removable to allow unit to rest on the four castor wheels underneath. Body: glossy and high lustre, all four wheels in good condition, some very light feather marks here and there which are barely discernible due to the high gloss of the yellow. Cassette deck: fully working, with new belts and has been serviced (including head cleaning). Playback head is shiny and in good condition. Radio: receives on all channels, stereo lamp working, signal strength meter working. Lamps beneath tuning dial working. The dial looks amazing when lit and even more amazing when turned. Turntable: Fully automatic and fully working. The drive wheel has been replaced as has the needle. The turntable operates at correct speed on all three speeds. The automatic system locates the beginning of the record with each size selected, either 7″, 10″, or 12. This is a stack-and-drop system, where the records can be stacked on top of one another at the top of the spindle, and when the’Start’ lever is engaged it will drop one record at a time, moving the tonearm out of the way when dropping, and placing is again at the start of the next record. I have used it with 5 records stacked without issue. This makes it a great party piece, as with careful record selection the host need not attend the music for quite some time. Note: all records need to be the same size for automatic system to function without issue. Once the last record has dropped, the player will finish at the end of the groove and return the tonearm to its cradle and switch itself off. You can have the player continue to play the same record over and over simply by lifting the record overarm up and to the side, this engages the stack-and-drop system but with only one record, with the tonearm lifting at the end of the record and repositioning itself at the start again. The unit comes with a BRAND NEW spare replacement stylus as well as the original. The lid/visor for this system is in good condition except for 2 small cracks near the hinge. This does not affect operation of the lid at all and is is barely noticeable externally. All knobs are present and shiny. Control console is clean and shiny with faint scuffs.
