This item has some signs of age to the front grills and perspex top, see pictures, but is overall in excellent condition for age. Fully working and guaranteed. This is a classically designed Radio/Record player, (an early example of which can still be found in the new London Design Museum). This attractive device is still in excellent, working condition as a VHF/FM Radio Receiver and as an interesting (Monaural only) Record player. The small but modern looking, (manually-operated) 4-speed turn-table, rotates not only at 78/45/33 but also at the much less common, rate of 16 RPM. Originally dating from 60 years ago, the quite revolutionary, SK4/5 Phonosuper Record Player/FM Radio, was initially introduced and manufactured by Braun of Western Germany in 1955/56. It was originally conceived by Dieter Rams and Hans Gugelot. These two, prominent and talented individuals, were famous 20. Century, Braun Graphic designers of international repute. When this particular model first appeared, during the post-war period, it certainly represented a total and radical departure from earlier or more traditional, design ideas. It was also popularly known in Germany, as a Schneewittchensarg or Snow Whites Coffin because of its quite unique, rectangular or box shape and clear, Perspex lid! This elegant & stylish item consists of a white- finished, metal case together with two slim, Elm-laminated, wooden ends or side-panels. The whole unit, including the compact turn-table, simple, plain -grey plastic controls and illuminated tuning dial, are clearly visible through the hinged, transparent cover, which also provides easy access when raised. It measures 58.5 cm long X 29cm deep and 24 cm high. Although it uses Valve or Vacuum tube technology throughout, this unit has recently been restored, with a re-serviced internal HT power supply producing a totally hum-free sound output with minimum distortion. It consequently, still performs well and reliably plays long-playing records with an excellent quality of (monaural) sound reproduction. The whole unit is, of course, already equipped for (European) 240 V AC and 50 Hz use.
