This unit is in excellent cosmetic condition and works perfectly. The platter speed was checked with our speed strobe light and test disc and found to be steady and accurate. It comes with the original packaging and power cord. Excerpt from The Absolute Sound review (2010). The first thing that strikes you about the classic is the absolute, rooted stability on which it builds the sound. If you are thinking staid or sluggish as a result you couldnt be more wrong. The firm footing under the music is a perfect launching pad for whatever dynamic fireworks the disc wants to throw at you. Take a listen to “Paper In Fire” from the John Cougar Melllencamp album. This was never a great recording but its most definitely brilliant music. The Classic 1 picks it up by the scruff of the neck and drives this high-tempo track right into the room, giving it a sense of both physical presence and musical purpose that belie the thin and glarey recording. The energy and sheer life are infectious, but not bought at the expense of poor definition or separation. Just listen to the clean, crisp leading edges on the wood blocks, or the natural tonality and separation of the vocals. Sure, the deck cant disguise the glaze that coats the crescendos, but it can dig through it to stop the instruments congealing into a single whole, keeping the band stable in space and the track on course. If this record on this table doesnt get you up and dancing then you are probably dead from the neck down. Not so long ago, a musician friend of mine heard the Classic 1 compared to what is one of the finest and most expensive decks in existence. Yes there were differences, but they were more presentational than musical and they werent major. How much is the difference in cost? He said, HOW MUCH? For lo, a true audio bargain is a rare and wonderful thing and I think Im still struggling to come to terms with this one. VPI “Classic Turntable” Features. Special Edition JMW-10.5i SE tonearm – By giving up “VTA on the fly” adjustments, you get most of the sound of the highly reviewed JMW-10.5i tonearm. A new less expensive base and mounting saves hundreds of dollars but gives up little in sound. New investment cast aluminum high inertia platter with precision inverted bearing. Speed stability on par with a master tape – Due to the rigid mounting of motor – platter – tonearm there isn’t any random motion to cause speed instabilities. Noise rejection allowing the “Classic Turntable” to sit on a wood shelf near four 15 sub-woofers and having virtually no feedback. Lack of random motion between the motor – platter – tonearm gives the ultimate in low level resolution. Not only does this rigidity improve speed stability, it also allows the retrieval of low level information with the world’s great turntables and pushing against master tapes. Absolutely solid, non-resonating laminated one-piece chassis holding all components. This is not a wooden frame; it is a solid laminated 2.5 thick MDF block with 11 gauge steel attached to the top with silicone and long bolts through all the layers. The chassis weighs 30 pounds and is totally non-resonant. Real black oak or walnut wood veneer finish. RCA jack termination so you can use the interconnect of your choice. Tonearm anti-skate – For those that require the fine adjustment of anti-skate, it is standard on the JMW-10.5i SE. Optional lift off full dust-cover is available by third party companies. Optional periphery ring clamp. Optional ADS power supply. 20.75″ W x 15.75″ D x 10 H (Including tonearm wire loop).
