Vintage turntable Pioneer PL-550. Manual DD Quartz Lock record player. Video
For your consideration is a vintage turntable Pioneer PL-550 Full Manual record player. Quartz Lock or Manual pitch with Quartz turned OFF. I don’t make two same turntables. Every player is unique. I get bored using same veneer, so I try to use different wood for different players. This one is in book matched crotch mahogany. What you see is its original color with 3d ripples texture. Much better looking in person. Vertical tonearm adjustment, all metal tonearm. Big motor and heavy platter. Dead stable and very quiet player. Completely disassembled, deck prepared and covered with a real wood crotch mahogany veneer. Extremely difficult to work with. All corners are tight and sharp. 6 coats of different finishes applied to a silky smooth satin, almost semi-gloss sheen look. Cueing damping fluid replaced and now tonearm lands slowly and softly. Speed pot was flushed with contact cleaner. Platter was wet sanded, buffed and polished. All tonearm pieces, control knobs, control plates were cleaned and polished. Dust cover buffed and polished. Some light marks here and there, but it’s nice and solid. View the pictures and judge the work. Works like a Swiss watch. Serial number badge is on the bottom cover. Comes with Stanton D61 cartridge and original stylus. I don’t know how old it is but the stylus is sharp and sounds very nice. Please, watch short video here. Note that I always show with BASS and Treble controls OFF. Playing Mark Levinson amp and B&W Nautilus 802 speakers. Platter, counterweight, hinges removed and double boxed.
