You are looking at a fantastic little ARCAM Alpha II integrated amplifier. Ever popular range of fantastic British Arcam products from the early 90s. This is the series two model. Lovely open, sweet sound. Features phono (record player input) MM moving magnet, video, CD, tuner, tape loop, bass, treble, balance controls, and headphone socket. Rated at 30 watts x 2 RMS into 8 ohms. These are real watts so drives most speakers with ease. Great build quality (aluminium case work) & quality internals. Decent passive components, large torriod mains transformer, 1% metal film resistors, film & polystyrene capacitors & non magnetic Aluminium enclosure. The Arcam Alpha 2 is a product of Arcam’s many years of experience in amplifier design and manufacture. Detailed theoretical analysis and extensive listening have produced a design that is technically outstanding. This design has been realised in practice using high quality components selected for optimum electrical and sonic performance. The result is an amplifier that maintains the full dynamics of a musical performance while reproducing the subtleties and emotion both accurately and naturally. Not only does the Alpha 2 produce a generous 30 watts continuous output per channel into 8 ohms, but its special high peak current output stage will drive loudspeakers whose impedance dips as low as 2 ohms. Unlike many other amplifiers the Alpha 2 can be run continuously at high levels because its cool running aluminium chassis will not overheat. It is fully compatible with a wide variety of programme sources. Five inputs are available; four are selected by a rotary switch and the fifth by the nearby tape monitor button. All the inputs use a high quality and robust design of phono socket. The Alpha 2’s cartridge input is specially optimised for use with any moving magnet cartridge (such as our own 77 series) or high output moving coil cartridge. The highest quality low output moving coil cartridges can also be accommodated using our optional plug in MCA preamplifier board. There is a dedicated input for a CD player, further inputs for a tuner and video playback and finally a set of line level input and output sockets suitable for use with a tape recorder. Power output: 30 watts per channel into 8 (stereo). Frequency response: 30Hz to 20kHz. Total harmonic distortion: 0.02%. Input sensitivity: 0.25mV (MC), 2.5mV (MM), 200mV (line). Signal to noise ratio: 70dB (MC), 72dB (MM), 95dB (line). Speaker load impedance: 4 (minimum). Dimensions: 435 x 84 x 230mm. Made in the Great Britain. Transparent, clean, sweet punchy sound. Its in great working order, all controls have been cleaned with Criags Deoxit. Its in good condition too, few marks on top only 9.3 out of 10. Comes with spare speaker output fuses, IEC mains lead with UK plug and European plug depending on where it sells. Is rated at 9.3 out of 10 Appraisal report. Packaging has some wear.
