Vintage 1950’s Zenith COBRA MATIC K666R Bakelite Phonograph Radio Record Player
Original January 1953 Zenith Cobra-Matic Radio & Phonograph in Bakelite Case Model K666R. This Cobra-Matic has the ability to play 7″, 10″ & 12 records, on speeds 16, 33, 45, & 78 RPM. The inner LH knob switches back and forth between radio and phono. Radio and Phono markings are present on the case. The center upper knob is tone, and the RH knob is on/off & volume. It is ink stamped “January 1953″ on the chassis. The sticker on the bottom of the case states: “Model K666R, Chassis 6K02″. The condition of this rare piece is very nice. The knobs are all present and in great shape. The gold on the faceplate has some finish loss. The lid hinge works great and locks in the up position. All the original feet are on the bottom. The deep maroon bakelite case has a nice even shine to it. There is a minor crack in it shown in photo #4. It’s very hard to see until you have strong light on it. The area is rock solid, so it doesn’t affect anything. The original cord is not cracked or frayed. On the interior, there is some of the felt missing on the turntable platter. Other than that, the interior looks superb. The cobra eyes on the tone arm are a nice feature. All the original baffles/panels are present and nice. As with any tube amplifier, the last thing you want to do it plug it in, until you’ve had it serviced. Any tube amp that’s been sitting around forever probably needs needs some capacitors replaced and the tubes tested. This makes a great display piece as is, but if you want to test it, have it done by a professional. SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS.
