Yamaha YP-511: An excellent Japanese “Golden Era” direct-drive turntable! The Yamaha YP-511, released in 1976 during the “Golden Era” of Japanese audiophile equipment, is an excellent direct-drive turntable. The YP-511 was created with the primary goal of reducing vibrational noise via exceptional mechanical engineering. The YP-511 uses an 8-pole, 24-slot DC servo motor with large torque to drive the 30 cm aluminum platter. The high-response servo circuit on this turntable provides exceptionally accurate rotational speed, even during load fluctuations. The platter weight distribution was localized to the outer part of the platter, to increase rotational inertia during use. The tonearm features some nice innovations, including advances which significantly reduce vibrational resonances. Overall, the YP-511 offers exceptional performance by virtue of its robust and unerring construction, as expected from Yamaha. This unit is in very good condition, with minor general wear throughout, including a few scratches which are not noticeable (please see photos). It has been thoroughly checked and tested by our professional technician, confirming its flawless operation. The 33 and 45 settings both work perfectly, and the platter rotation is like clockwork, as expected from Yamaha products of this era, which were built for a lifetime of operation.
